The week the Giant came to school.

The Week the Giant came to Pukeko class.

We read stories and poems about Giants. The giant wrote us a letter. We had to measure his foot prints. We designed traps to try and catch him. We drew a map for him and wrote places on the map so he could find his way around our town. We wrote him a letter to find out more about him and we painted what we thought he might look like. We even went on a Giant hunt looking for clues.
Learning is fun in Pukeko class.

We worked collaboratively with our friends. We needed to think critically to think of ways in which our traps would work or might not work.

Drawing a map for the Giant and writing on them.

Pukeko tamariki wrote to the Giant to find out more about him.
We used question marks. We left spaces, sounded out words and found words around the room. Some of us had two ideas. We love writing!

We did some amazing paintings showing what we thought the giant looked like.

P.S. I don't think this will be the last we hear of this giant.

Kaitiaki of Others -Have you filled a bucket today?

We have been learning about being Kaitiaki (kind and caring) to others.
We read the story  - Have you filled a bucket today. This gave us lots to think about.

We identified ways that we could fill people's buckets to make them feel good and to make us feel good too!

We decided to make a chocolate slice to take home to share with our whanau. We invited Nga Ringa to join us too. We had fun working with this class.

We cooked it in the oven. Then made icing for it. We put sprinkles on the top too.

We also decorated cards and wrote to our whanau at home. We wrote about how they do nice things for us at home.

When we wrapped up our slice and took them home. We couldn't wait to share them with our whanau.

Hope you enjoyed them whanau :)

Playdough

Making Play dough.
Nag Ringa came to visit our class so we could make play dough for our classes together.
First we had to read the recipie.

Then we had turns at adding the ingredients.

We had to be Kaitiaki of ourselves and wait patiently for our turns even though we were very excited and couldn't wait!

We were Kaitiaki of others when we made sure that everyone got a turn at stirring the play dough.

When we had finished cooking we had to divide the play dough evenly between the people in the group. If there was 4 tamariki in our group we divided the play dough into quarters. This was 4 even pieces.

If there was 3 tamariki in our group we had to divide it into thirds. This was 3 even pieces.

Then we had lots of fun playing with our new play dough.

Once we had finished we were Kaitiaki of our environment and gave our class a good tidy up.

Once we were tidy we did some writing about our colourful and sticky play dough.
What lots of fun we are having while learning.
